LMI is a forward-thinking digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact through innovation, agility, and strategic technology deployment. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI specializes in delivering mission-critical platforms, AI-enabled solutions, and scalable prototypes tailored to meet the unique needs of federal agencies. With a focus on sectors such as defense, space, healthcare, and energy, LMI leverages its expertise to enhance operational outcomes, streamline processes, and foster technological advancement across government agencies. The company's commitment to investing in emerging technologies and fostering collaborative partnerships ensures that its solutions remain at the forefront of innovation, providing clients with the tools necessary to navigate complex challenges and outpace rapid change.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced UI/UX Designer to join our team supporting U.S. Army modernization initiatives. This role involves designing intuitive, mission-ready user experiences for next-generation software capabilities that enable Soldiers to make faster, informed decisions in dynamic operational environments. Working closely with Product Owners, Software Engineers, Technical Program Managers, Scrum Masters, Forward Deployed Engineers, and Army stakeholders, you will translate complex operational workflows, command and control processes, and mission requirements into modern, user-centered interfaces. Your designs will focus on visual clarity, usability, and efficiency, ensuring that cloud-native, AI-enabled software is not only powerful but also accessible and trusted by operational users. The position requires an active Secret security clearance and offers an opportunity to directly influence the usability of critical software deployed across enterprise cloud and Tactical Edge Compute environments, ultimately enhancing mission effectiveness and operational awareness for Army organizations worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret security clearance is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a UX/UI Designer, Product Designer, or similar role supporting complex software products.
  • Proficiency in designing modern web-based applications using user-centered design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous operational requirements into intuitive user experiences.
  • Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with Product Owners, Software Engineers, and Agile teams.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design, interaction design, visual design, accessibility, and responsive design principles.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and SDLC processes.
  • Excellent visual design skills with attention to usability, clarity, and information hierarchy.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating design concepts to technical teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead UX/UI design efforts for innovative software solutions supporting U.S. Army modernization projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Owners, Technical Program Managers, Engineers, and Army stakeholders to define user experience goals and establish design standards.
  • Conduct user research, interviews, workshops, and usability testing with Army personnel to understand operational workflows, challenges, and decision-making needs.
  • Translate complex operational processes into intuitive user journeys, task flows, information architectures, and interaction designs.
  • Create wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and detailed user interface specifications.
  • Develop and maintain scalable design systems with reusable components, typography, color schemes, accessibility standards, and interaction patterns.
  • Design interfaces that visualize operational data, geospatial information, Common Operating Pictures, task management, AI-assisted recommendations, and mission planning workflows.
  • Partner with Software Engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible, performant, and optimized for secure cloud-native applications.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Backlog Grooming, Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Conduct usability testing and incorporate operational feedback into iterative design improvements.
  • Develop UX artifacts including personas, journey maps, workflow diagrams, storyboards, and comprehensive design documentation.
  • Support demonstrations, briefings, pilot deployments, and operational evaluations through compelling visualizations and prototypes.
  • Establish scalable UX practices, design standards, and reusable assets to support ongoing and future software development efforts.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $92,000 - $158,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful projects supporting U.S. Army modernization efforts.
  • Remote work flexibility within the US.
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment with cutting-edge technologies.
  • Professional development opportunities and exposure to federal government projects.
  • Potential for career growth within a mission-driven organization committed to public service.
