Character Designer

An illustrator is required to design a collection of approximately 16 core characters plus 12 zodiac-inspired characters for a humorous endurance sport brand centered on triathlons. The illustrations should be hand-drawn in a messy, expressive style that embraces imperfection, humor, and raw personality—capturing the chaotic and emotional reality of triathlon training. Each character will represent a unique mental spiral or personality type found in endurance sports, ranging from data-obsessed athletes to laid-back rest-day enthusiasts. In addition to the character designs, the project includes creating supporting graphics featuring character quotes for use on merchandise such as stickers, t-shirts, mugs, and water bottles. One character must retain a green hoodie and a spiral face, while the rest can be creatively interpreted within the brand’s scrappy and chaotic aesthetic.

Requirements

• Proven ability to illustrate in a loose, expressive, and character-driven style
• Experience creating unique and memorable character designs with personality and humor
• Ability to develop a consistent visual style across multiple characters
• Strong understanding of visual storytelling through expressions, poses, and details
• Experience preparing artwork for merchandise production (stickers, apparel, accessories)
• Openness to creative direction while contributing original ideas
• Proficiency with hand-drawn illustration (digital or traditional methods)
• Ability to work remotely and communicate design progress clearly
• Willingness to incorporate specific brand details, such as the green hoodie and spiral face for one character
