Job DescriptionThe Opportunity
Lead Compliance Across APAC and Shape the Future of Fintech
You'll lead regulatory compliance across 10 APAC markets, partnering with senior leaders to enable growth, expansion, and innovation in a fast-scaling fintech environment. This is your opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role where your decisions directly influence how a global business operates and grows.
At Xplor, we're building a best-in-class compliance function in APAC. You'll be stepping into a high-impact function at exactly the right moment to shape how compliance supports that growth. You'll work at the intersection of regulation and commercial strategy, ensuring compliance enables growth rather than slows it down.
This is a senior leadership role combining strategic oversight with hands-on execution, working closely with senior leaders, regulators, banks, and internal teams across APAC.
What You'll be doing
- You will lead regulatory compliance across 10 APAC markets, including Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea and more.
- You will monitor and assess regulatory, legislative, and industry developments across the payments and fintech landscape translating emerging risks and opportunities into clear advice for the business
- You will design and execute licensing strategies across key jurisdictions, securing approvals that unlock new revenue opportunities.
- You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Risk teams to embed compliance into business processes, platform design, and go-to-market activities.
- You will lead regulatory engagement and maintain strong relationships with regulators, acquiring banks, schemes, financial institutions, and external advisors.
- You will provide market expansion support advising on regulatory due diligence as Xplor enters new markets and launches new payment methods
- You will oversee regulatory reporting, audits, examinations, and remediation activities.
- You will also lead and develop a specialist APAC compliance team, creating a high-performing function that scales with the business.
- You will act as a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team on compliance and regulatory strategy.
Location: Remote within Australia, with a preference for Sydney-based candidates and full Australian working rights.
QualificationsWhat would make me a good candidate?
We are looking for a compliance leader who is as comfortable in a regulator meeting as they are rolling up their sleeves on a licensing application. We love to hear from people who are motivated by building something meaningful, thrive in fast-moving environments, and see compliance as a growth enabler rather than a barrier. We are inspired by meeting big picture thinkers who can also execute people who bring commercial judgement to regulatory challenges, lead with curiosity across complex multi-market environments, and put relationships at the heart of how they work.
Required qualifications for this role:
- 10+ years’ experience in regulatory compliance, risk, or other regulatory roles within payments, fintech, or financial services.
- Significant experience in a senior or head-of-function compliance role, ideally across APAC.
- Deep understanding of APAC regulatory environments relevant to payments, stored value, PayFac models, and financial services.
- Hands-on exposure to payment facilitation, acquiring banks, settlement processes, and global schemes.
- Demonstrated experience managing regulatory licensing obligations and engaging directly with regulators
- Proven people leadership experience, including managing and developing small, specialist teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to operate at executive and board level.
- The ability to make clear, defensible decisions across markets with differing and evolving regulatory frameworks
The kind of person who succeeds here
- You're a practical operator comfortable rolling up your sleeves on regulatory reporting, audits, risk registers, and contracts alongside leading a team
- You build strong, credible relationships with regulators, banking partners, and internal stakeholders, and you’re confident representing compliance at a senior level.
- You think commercially, balancing regulatory integrity with business growth objectives and support market launches without becoming a blocker
- A collaborative leader - someone who works fluidly across Product, Engineering, Legal and business teams rather than operating in isolation
- You are comfortable navigating ambiguity making clear, defensible decisions across markets with differing and evolving regulatory frameworks.
