QByte Studios is an independent game studio based in Victoria, Australia. We’re currently working on **Nanites**, a third-person **action-builder survival game** inspired by _Fortnite: Save the World._

Set in a gritty, post-apocalyptic world overrun by rogue nanotech, **Nanites** blends story, base-building, combat, and survival strategy. We’re a small, passionate team that values creativity, fun, and high-quality work.

**Role Overview**

We’re looking for a **Level Designer** to help shape the environments, encounters, and gameplay flow of _Nanites_. You’ll design immersive, replayable levels that encourage exploration, creativity, and survival strategy while working closely with our art, design, and programming teams.

This is a **contractor role** with **fully flexible hours** and **remote work** you can work from anywhere, anytime, as long as progress is consistent and communication stays strong.

**What You’ll Be Doing**

*   Designing engaging, balanced, and immersive levels that support the core gameplay loop
*   Building playable greybox levels and iterating based on team feedback
*   Collaborating with writers, artists, and programmers to bring levels to life
*   Balancing exploration, resource gathering, and combat flow
*   Implementing gameplay elements like objectives, enemy encounters, and environmental storytelling
*   Testing and refining levels to ensure strong pacing, fun, and replayability

**What We’re Looking For**

*   Experience designing levels for 3D games (Unreal Engine preferred)
*   Strong understanding of game flow, pacing, and player psychology
*   Ability to take a concept from sketch/idea to fully playable layout
*   Familiarity with Unreal Engine’s level design tools (or willingness to learn)
*   Collaborative, open-minded, and adaptable to feedback
*   Independent, reliable, and a clear communicator
*   Willing to sign a contractor agreement.

**Bonus**

*   Experience designing levels in **Unreal Engine 5**
*   Familiarity with **post-apocalyptic or sci-fi** environments
*   Understanding of **game balance** and **player progression systems**
*   Prior experience on indie or mod projects

**Compensation Model**

We are currently in the **pre-revenue phase**. Everyone involved operates on a **net revenue-sharing model**: once _Nanites_ generates income, all contributors who have meaningfully participated will receive a share of the revenue.

Contractor agreements are in place to protect both parties.

We understand this model isn’t for everyone and that’s totally okay.

Senior Designer

**Job description:**

We’re seeking an expert-level Plumbing Designer/Engineer to join our small, fast-paced team. You must be highly proficient in Revit and AutoCAD, with a proven track record delivering and laying out complex plumbing systems.

You will be responsible for performing hydraulic design calculations, including sanitary, vent, domestic water, storm, and grease waste systems, as well as gas system design. Your role will involve pump pressure drop and head calculations, designing fire protection systems, and developing riser diagrams. You will also need to review submittals, respond to RFIs, and perform quality review checks of 2D/3D modelling including coordination between MEP services, structure and architectural elements.

**Key Responsibilities:**

Design and Layout

*   Design and document plumbing systems and create detailed drawings using AutoCAD and Revit
*   Perform hydraulic design calculations for sanitary, vent, domestic water, storm, grease waste systems, and select appropriate equipment sizes
*   Conduct gas system design, including calculations and equipment selection
*   Design fire protection systems, develop riser diagrams, and select appropriate equipment

Calculation and Analysis:

*   Calculate pump pressure drop and head requirements, and select suitable pumps
*   Perform detailed analysis and ensure systems meet design requirements and specifications

Review and Quality Assurance:

*   Review submittals and respond and raise Requests for Information (RFIs) in a timely manner

Documentation and Standards:

*   Develop and maintain schedules, and create detailed design documents as necessary

Collaboration and Communication:

*   English must be at expert level of both reading, writing and speaking
*   Work closely with project teams to ensure design integration and alignment with project goals
*   Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to address design-related issues and provide technical support

**Qualifications:**

*   Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a related field
*   Proven expertise in AutoCAD & Revit for plumbing system design
*   Experience in the design and layout of plumbing systems, including hydraulic design calculations
*   Proficiency in designing gas systems and fire protection systems, including pump calculations and equipment selection
*   Familiarity with UPC, IPC, PCA, and other international codes and standards (preferably AUS)
